Best Beaches in Bali for Every Kind of Traveler

April 9, 2026 · Solmira Travel Team

From surf breaks to quiet black-sand coves, Bali's beaches are more varied than the postcards suggest.

Bali's coastline changes character block by block - the same island has world-class surf breaks, calm swimming bays, and quiet black-sand coves within an hour or two of each other.

Uluwatu and Padang Padang in the south are known for their surf and dramatic cliffside setting, with beach clubs and sunset views drawing a livelier crowd, especially in the late afternoon.

Sanur and Nusa Dua, on the island's calmer east and southeast coasts, have gentler, reef-protected water that suits swimming and families better than the open-ocean beaches further south.

The north coast's black-sand beaches around Lovina trade postcard-blue water for a quieter pace, and are often paired with an early-morning dolphin-watching boat trip.

If you're chasing the clearest water for swimming or snorkeling, the boat-access beaches of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan generally beat anything reachable directly by road on Bali's mainland.
